Black Labrador Puppies – Bundles of Love

black-lab-puppies-bundles-of-love-634

A new puppy! It wriggles with anticipation as you stoop to pick it up, and your heart wriggles with a warm, furry feeling. Its eyes sparkle with mischief. Its little pink tongue reaches out to kiss you.

There is nothing like a black Labrador puppy! But do you know what you’re getting?

A Black Labrador Puppy Will Get Big

Because a black Labrador puppy is bursting with affection, and so eager to please anyone who will give it a second look, they are hard to resist. You should be aware before buying one, though, that a black Labrador puppy will get big. It is not the biggest dog, but its size is multiplied by its energy.

A black Labrador puppy will become a strongly built, medium-sized dog. At its withers, just behind the head, it will be as much as 2′ high – nearly as tall as your 2-year old son. In 2 years, the black Labrador puppy will weigh 65 to 80 pounds. Your son may not weigh that much until he is 7, 8 or 9 years old.

Think well before you buy a black Labrador puppy for a young child.

A Black Labrador Puppy Will Be Energetic

Not only will that sweet, cuddly black Labrador puppy get big, it will also be bursting with energy. From the time it is tiny, it will seem unstoppable. As it grows, the energy grows. This dog is athletic, bred to be a retrieving gun dog. It has plenty of energy and stamina to fulfill that purpose.

If a child or older person will be walking the dog, think about its energy. Consider that it will need at least an hour of exercise daily.

A Black Labrador Puppy Will Eat a Lot

The engine that generates all of that energy must be kept full. A black Labrador puppy tends to be a healthy dog, but it will eat a lot. Expect food bills to be relatively high.

Both Lab puppies and mature Labs resemble goats, if allowed, and will eat most anything they find lying around. Be prepared to clean up, and train them for their own safety.

A Black Labrador Puppy Will Be Funny

These dogs can be regular clowns, making everyone laugh with their antics. In the park, expect them to amuse everyone within sight. At home, expect them to cheer up anyone who is down.

A Black Labrador Puppy Will Love You

Perhaps the strongest advantage of a black Labrador puppy, other than its usefulness as a gun dog, is that it will love you. If you meet its needs, and shower it with love, it will reward you with loyalty and un-dying affection.

We are seriously looking at a black lab/Austrailian Shepherd female – age 11 months – weight 14 pounds. How much do you think she will weigh when an adult? We have had larger dogs before – one was a German/Austrailian shepherd. What are some things we should be aware of? Actually we will be making a decision either today or at least by Saturday this week. Thanks.
