   We have a black lab with a white spot on his chest. His dad is a brown lab and his mom is yellow lab. I got so tired of people asking me if he is a full lab, that I researched it. The above website is very informative.

		<description>actually the original ancestor of the labrador is call the saint jonhs water dog.   One of the main marks of the st johns water dog is the white splash on the chest and around the feet... so the white marks are not a sign of a mut...but more of a tribute to the true backround of the labrador retriever.</description>

Purebred Labs are solid color. A badly bred lab from a backyard breeder or puppy mill may have spots though. 

If they are mutts.... would you love them any less? after all, that is what really matters!</description>
