hey there guys. well we have a litter of 11. wow right. they were born 11-7-11. sweet babies. to answer a few questions..well the feeding of an orphaned pup, make sure u feed every two hours. make sure the puppy is in normal feeding position. not on its back, if so it will have the food come out its nose and then aspirate into the lungs and then there will be serious problems. eyes usually take between 2-4 weeks to open. The problem with defication..well as you feed them you need to make sure that you are wiping their bottoms with a moist cottonball or washcloth and rubbing gently, as this will trigger defication.thats what mommy would do. and to ASH. yes a 21 day old puppy was too young. you are basically looking at a 3 week old pup...way too young. but if you care for that pup diligently it will be fine. dont recommend taking any pup until 6 weeks for health reasons. hope this was helpful..thanks guys!!! enjoy your babies!

We have a chocolate lab that just gave birth to 6 pups (4 black and 2 chocolates). They are so cute and I was wanting to know when their eyes would open but from reading I see that others are asking the same thing. They are 13 days old today and the way they use thier their little noses is amazing. The mother is very smart and the same two can walk pretty good and keep getting lost:) This is an exciting adventure!

I took in an orphaned 2 day old choc lab pup. He is now 3 weeks old and his eyes still don't look close to opening. Vet seems unsure of what to do and I am having a hard time making him defecate more than 1 time a day. Vets office is quite tired of me bringing him in to be checked and tell me its fine as long as its at least 1 time a day. I usually have to stimulate with a thermometer to get him to do that. Should I be concerned with eyes? Should I be concerned with defecation? I give a little Karo syrup in 2 bottles a day to keep poop soft. Help!
